About Ava

Prior to finding my passion as a therapist, I managed a family business in Lexington Market. There I learned about the variety of people that make up this world. I have always been interested in what makes people “tic.” I graduated Towson University Summa Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. In 1993 I received my Masters of Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work and in 2012 I became an Associate Certified Coach certificate from the International Coach Federation.

While I am pleased with all my accomplishments, I am most proud of earning my Associates Degree from the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) in 1987. CCBC is where I started my educational journey and learned how to rise above the learning disabilities I’d struggled with since elementary school.

My private practice in Pikesville, Maryland, is where I provide individual, family and group therapy. I have 20 years of clinical experience helping clients reduce their anxiety and come to a greater understanding with their emotional issues such as addiction, shame and childhood trauma. I am fluent in American Sign Language and certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). To help my clients move forward, I use a variety of expressive techniques and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). In addition to my clinical practice, I teach Human Development at CCBC, as it holds a special place in my heart.

As a natural teacher and coach, I enjoy helping people find solutions and make positive life changes. Clients comment that my warmth, intuition and compassion helps them open up and break through the barriers that hold them back. My experience and education provide me with an innate ability to understand people, their situations and their challenges. With passion, energy and a “never-give-up” attitude, I will help you engage your creativity and renew your spirit.

When I’m not working you can find me spending time with my family, friends, dogs or doing yoga and creating.
